ANXIETY

ANXIETY

In children, just as in adults, anxiety is the body’s way of signalling that something feels overwhelming, unfamiliar, or potentially unsafe. It is an internal alarm system that prepares the body to respond, often heightening awareness and triggering physical and emotional reactions intended to protect and support the individual.

This response is incredibly useful if there is real danger, because it prepares the body to react quickly. However, in modern life the brain can sometimes interpret non-dangerous situations.

Anxiety is increasingly common in children due to a current mix of environmental, psychological and social factors, and can show itself in many different ways including: fear of separation, social and/or performance anxiety, panic attacks, or generalised worry. Unlike adults, children may not have the tools to process their emotions fully, making them more vulnerable to anxiety.

As parents, it can be heartbreaking to watch our children experience such anxiety. We want them to feel safe, confident, and happy, but when they struggle with worries, fears, or emotional overwhelm, it can leave us feeling helpless.

This is where homeopathy can be an extremely valuable resource, offering a gentle, natural way to help children manage without the negative side effects. It works by addressing the root cause rather than suppressing symptoms.

Please note that if anxiety is beginning to cause additional or more concerning symptoms, such as the onset of continued low mood or depression, lack of restorative sleep, poor appetite, tics, stammering, or other noticeable behavioural or physical changes, it is important to seek further support.

Homeopathy can be a very supportive approach in these situations, and works best when it is highly individualised and guided carefully. Rather than simply selecting a remedy for “anxiety,” a homeopath will look at the child’s whole picture, how the anxiety presents, what triggers it, what makes it better or worse, sleep patterns, emotional responses, physical symptoms, and overall wellbeing.

Working one-to-one with a qualified homeopath is key. Individual consultations allow the practitioner to understand the depth and nuances of the symptoms, monitor progress, and adjust remedies as the body begins to respond.
