CHOOSING A JUICER

CHOOSING A JUICER

With numerous attractive models available, selecting the right electric juicer can be challenging, but it largely depends on your family’s specific needs and how often you plan to use it. If you’re new to juicing, it may be advisable to start with a basic, budget-friendly juicer.

Centrifugal juicers are fast and user friendly, have a wide mouth to drop produce into – meaning minimal preparation and less cutting, and work well with hard fruits and vegetables like apples, beets and carrots. Nowadays centrifugal juicers can be found in most department stores, and easily found on-line. They’re generally more affordable and juice produce very quickly, but may not be as efficient for leafy greens, and overall produce a lower quality tasting juice, due to oxidation (heavy, metal blades are used in this juicing process).

If you quickly learn to love juicing and juices (which you undoubtedly will), you will certainly want to consider a cold press juicer. They operate at slower speeds, which helps preserve more nutrients and enzymes in the juice. They’re more versatile and efficient for juicing leafy greens and soft fruits. They do tend to be more expensive and slower than centrifugal juicers, but in my opinion the quality, taste and minimum waste of produce is more than worth it.

Our family’s choice is the Nama J2, cold press juicer. A juicer that yields up to 60% more juice from the same amount of ingredients than with conventional high-speed juicers. With the new hopper technology, you can simply load your entire recipe and walk away! Make one juice or a batch of juices in minutes. It’s really rather awesome!

Did you know? The cold-pressing of fruits and vegetables is a method of juice extraction that has been around for thousands of years. This is how the Roman’s extracted oil from their olives. During cold-pressing the juice is extracted by slowly exerting pressure on the fruit or vegetables. This pressure squeezes out the juice, leaving only the minimal amount of pulp, and the most delicious juice you may have ever tasted.
