HOMEOPATHY

HOMEOPATHY

Homeopathy is an alternative system of medicine founded on the principle of “like cures like”. Meaning a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy individual can be used to heal similar symptoms in someone who is sick. Micro doses of a substance in very diluted amounts are made into homeopathic remedies. Remedies work by by stimulating the body’s innate healing response that aims to bring balance and promote healing where it’s needed the most. Unlike allopathy, homeopathy has a holistic and individualised approach, which treats the whole person – rather than just the symptoms of the disease. Homeopaths consider physical, mental and emotional aspects of a person’s health.

The Law of Similars: Take for example the homeopathic remedy Allium Cepa, derived from red onion. When you chop up an onion your eyes may water or burn, and your nose runs. In homeopathy we use micro doses of a substance, in this case red onion, in very diluted amounts, to treat people suffering with those or similar symptoms, for example hay fever.

Homeopathic Remedies: Are made from natural substances from plants, minerals, or animals.

Trituration or Dilution: The source material undergoes a process of trituration (grinding) or dilution with a solvent such water. During this process, the substance is diluted to various degrees depending on the desired potency of the remedy.

Potentization: After the initial dilution, the solution goes through a process called succussion. This process is believed to activate the medicinal properties of the substance and release its “vital energy”, the “essence” of the substance.

Serial Dilution and Succussion: The diluted solution is further diluted with more solvent, and the succussion process is repeated. This serial dilution and succussion may be performed multiple times, with each step resulting in a higher potency of the remedy.

Individualized Treatment: Homeopathy considers each person as a unique individual with their own set of symptoms and experiences. Homeopaths conduct detailed case taking to help understand the person’s physical symptoms, emotional state, and overall health history in order to select a remedy that matches the individual’s symptoms as closely as possible.

Holistic Approach: Homeopathy aims to treat the whole person rather than just the symptoms of a disease. This means considering not only physical symptoms but also mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of a persons whole health.
